March Sesshin (In-person)

March 26, 6 pm – March 29, noon EDT
Location: Connecticut, USA

Sesshin means “gathering the mind,” and it’s the quintessential meditation practice in Zen. These meditation intensives are meant to create a container in which we can devote ourselves wholeheartedly to zazen, deepening our relationship to ourselves and one another while practicing stillness and silence.

This silent retreat is one of the few in-person formal gatherings at OMS. The retreat includes 6-8 hours of zazen a day, chanting services, daisan (private interview with Zuisei), and the dharma encounter that closes Spring Ango. During our spring sesshin we also hold a jukai or precepts ceremony, where a number of students receive Buddhism’s moral and ethical teachings.

The total cost is $375, including room and board. The sleeping arrangements are dormitory style, and all meals are vegetarian with vegan and gluten-free options. A couple of smaller shared rooms are available for those with specific needs. Please let us know of these or any dietary restrictions when you register.

If it’s your first time doing sesshin with OMS, please contact Guiding Teacher Zuisei Goddard to see if this retreat is a good fit for you.
